Lower School Curriculum :: Spanish

1

1st Grade Spanish focuses on oral expression, encouraging students to comfortably use Spanish as a practical means of expression and inclusive community building. Song, verse, dance, rhythm, dramatic play, visual expression, and games are ways students communicate in the second language, enriched by the printed/written word.

2

2nd Grade Spanish continues to focus primarily on oral communication. Students expand vocabulary and sharpen listening comprehension skills. Correct pronunciation is stressed, and students use complete sentences whenever possible.  They learn about Mexican culture and some other Spanish-speaking countries.

3

3rd Grade Spanish continues to stress listening comprehension and oral skills and introduces the reading of previously learned vocabulary and structures.  Students extend these skills to include more vocabulary and to feel more at ease responding to various situations.  Cultural awareness is an integral part of each class.

4

4th Grade Spanish continues to focus on oral and listening skills and improves reading proficiency. Students are introduced to reproducing the words in the printed form.  Students learn more about Latin American countries.
