1st Grade Science
introduces three disciplines of science—Earth Science, Life
Science, and Physical Science—and includes Health and
Environmental Science units Students develop a good basic
understanding of main concepts within each area. They build
models to illustrate ideas and concepts, work on the process
skills used in being a good scientist, and learn collaboration
skills by working in lab groups.

include: germs, how they’re spread, and good hygiene; body
systems and their functions; plant needs, processes, and
adaptations; interactions between and adaptations of different
animals; habitats; Earth’s water sources; different star

3rd Grade Science
increases a child's ability to understand and deal with his/her
natural environment, to develop a rational approach to the
solution of problems, as well as to understand
interrelationships of science with other human experiences.
Major topics include: skeletal/muscular/nervous systems of the
human body; nutrition; energy, forces, and motion; simple
machines; weather; chemical mixtures; plant and animal diversity
and adaptation; cells/microscopic life; changes of earth’s
surface; types of soil and the soil cycle; solar system; natural
resources; and responsible use of natural resources.

knowledge of science vocabulary, facts, and theories.
Units covered include: systems of the human body;
vertebrate animals; conservation of natural resources;
environmental studies; space exploration; rocks, minerals and
volcanoes; chemical changes of matter; density of matter;
