Atlantic Experience 9,
a comparative study of Europe and the United States, develops a
student’s understanding of their complex historical
relationship. Some topics are the Greek and Roman legacy, the
Middle Ages, Renaissance, Reformation, First Contact,
Enlightenment, the American and French Revolutions, and
Napoleon’s campaigns.
Emphasis is on the development of critical reading, writing and
analytical skills, as well as an appreciation for diversity.
Students must successfully complete a research paper, a public
speaking piece, and a final comprehensive geography test.

Atlantic Experience 10
covers the redefining of Europe after Napoleon's reign and the
defining of the United States through the development of the
Constitution to the present day.
Some topics are industrialization, sectionalism and Civil
War, nation-building, the age of big business,
colonialism/imperialism, World War I, the Jazz Age, the rise of
totalitarian dictatorships, World War II, the Cold War, Vietnam,
the Civil Rights struggle, and the European Union.
Students continue to develop their skills in critical reading,
writing, text analysis and research. An understanding of
diversity will be emphasized. Students must pass the research
paper and a final comprehensive geography test.

During junior and senior years, a student must take at least 4
trimesters of History, at least one of them in a government
course. Other courses are trimester electives.
Examples of courses include:

Government in Action,
Art History,
East Asian Cultures,
Cold War Politics,
Military Strategy,
Modern Africa,
China and the New World
Order, The 1960s,
Understanding 9-11,
Psychology,
Women’s History,
Economics,
Sociology,
As the World Turns
(Current Events), and others.
All classes emphasize critical reading, writing, research, and
historical analysis.
