The Ways We Know examines constructs of knowledge. Topics include Neurology, Cognition, Epistemology, Conceptions of Intelligence/Knowledge, Multiple Intelligences, Learning Styles, Habits of Mind, Artificial Intelligence, and the Role of Technology.

 

Hip-Hop Culture in America critically examines Hip-Hop in the context of contemporary American culture.  Topics include: community, crime and injustice, economics, education, family, history, identity, politics and social consciousness, sports, race and racism, sex/sexism, sexuality and gender.

 

Introduction to Journalism is for students who want to join the school newspaper staff. They learn the basics of the style manual; write publishable stories covering various aspects of the Greenhill community; and demonstrate comprehension of the goals, ethics, and philosophies of a student newspaper. 

 

Writing the News involves preparing, writing, editing, and discussing articles for the school newspaper.  Students complete various of assignments, including leads, photo captions, and headlines, as well as news articles, feature stories, opinion pieces, and reviews.

 

Advanced Journalism involves all aspects of Writing the News and significant editorial responsibilities.

 

Yearbook allows students to use a class period in production of the Greenhill yearbook. 

 

Cavalcade class allows the editors to lead the staff in the production of the yearbook.

 

Peer Assistance and Leadership prepares students to serve as peer mentors by teaching various skills and educating students on several issues of concern: group dynamics, self-awareness, principles of human behavior, communication, listening and facilitation skills, decision-making and problem solving, personality development, emotional boundary setting, substance abuse prevention, identifying defense mechanisms, stress and anger management, and public speaking. 

 

Peer Assistance and Leadership Practicum involves serving as mentors to students in the lower and middle schools, as well as incoming freshmen.  Continued learning occurs on skills and other issues of concern: welcoming strangers, emotional boundaries, grief support, anger/stress management, depression/suicide, conflict management, attention deficit disorder, and other related teen issues.
