Admission Process: Primer and Grade 1

All applicants who are currently in a kindergarten program and who will be six (6) years old by September 1st must test for grade 1. If your child’s birthday falls between March 1 and August 31, he/she will be considered for a primer placement. Please inform the Admission Committee of your willingness to consider primer in your application materials. The Admission Committee's decision regarding placement is based on the developmental needs of your child.

Step I: Submit the following no later than December 7, 2007.

Non-refundable $100 application fee

Applicant/Family Information

Family Statement

Parent/Guardian Meeting Registration

Test Registration Form

Step II: Register for CATS Testing by December 7, 2007.

CATS testing is an application requirement for students applying to pre-kindergarten - 1st grade. The cost of the testing ($275) is not included in the application fee. Testing is conducted independently by Collaborative Academic Testing Service (CATS) and a summary of the results is sent to parents. Please use the enclosed CATS Registration form. This form must be mailed directly to CATS to schedule your one-on-one testing. Testing will begin in September. The sessions are approximately one hour. The CATS Test is scored according to a very specific age based scale. Please do not wait to schedule the CATS Test, as spots are limited. CATS Test fee waivers are available on a case-by-case basis. You may contact any of the schools requiring CATS testing to receive an application for a fee waiver.

Step III: Upon receipt of your Parent/Guardian Registration form, you will receive a letter confirming your meeting date.

Parent/Guardian Meetings allow the Admission Committee to gain a better understanding of both the family and the applicant. These meetings are conducted by an admission officer, last approximately thirty minutes, and involve only the parent(s) or guardian(s).

Step IV: The following forms must be received no later than January 18, 2008.

Confidential School Report

Confidential Teacher Evaluation

Official School Transcripts and/or Progress Reports

The Teacher Evaluation, Confidential School Report and Official Transcript or Progress Report must be sent directly to Greenhill from the applicant’s current school and teacher. The Admission Office will not accept forms sent by parents. It is the family's responsibility to see that Greenhill receives these forms before the deadline. The applicant’s family must submit the enclosed Official Transcript/Progress Report Release Form to the applicant’s school in order for this information to be sent to Greenhill. Transcripts may consist of progress reports, test results and letter or numeric grades.

Step V: You will be contacted by Greenhill to confirm testing or to schedule a visit date.

Once the application is submitted, you will be contacted by the Admission Office to confirm group testing. This test includes a nationally standardized test which measures a student's strengths in a school environment. The session lasts approximately three hours. If you are applying to Episcopal School of Dallas, Good Shepherd Episcopal School, The Hockaday School or Parish Episcopal School, you may test at any school as test scores will be shared. You may only test ONCE for the 2008-2009 admission year. Testing lists are shared by all participating schools as a test security measure. Applicants must be applying to the school where they are testing. Parents should consider application due dates when selecting test locations. If you do not test at Greenhill, you will be required to participate in a group visit. This visit will last approximately an hour. You will be contacted by the Admission Office to schedule a group visit.

Step VI: Admission Decisions

Decision letters will be mailed on March 14, 2008, to those applicants meeting the above deadlines. All applications received after the December 7, 2007, deadline will be reviewed on a rolling admission basis.
