Greenhill To Host Boys' Volleyball
Tournament
(9/18/00)
Greenhill
School will be hosting a boys’ volleyball tournament this
weekend in the Phillips Family Gymnasium, featuring premiere
teams from across Texas, Rhode Island, Oklahoma and the
Dominican Republic.
Of the two
teams from Rhode Island, East Providence finished the 1999
season as state champions, while the other squad, North
Kingstown, finished third in the state and is competing in
the tournament for the second consecutive year.
St.
Michael’s School from the Dominican Republic will be
arriving in Dallas on Wednesday and hopes to scrimmage the
Hornet team on Thursday afternoon. Greenhill Head Coach
Keith Nannie expects tough competition from the
international private school.
To round
out the top-notch field, Greenhill will be hosting two teams
from Oklahoma, five teams from San Antonio, two teams from
Houston, as well as two other boys’ volleyball teams from
the Metroplex area. Greenhill is expected to win the
tournament, as they remained undefeated (17-0) after winning
the Castle Hills Tournament last weekend.
The
sixteen teams will gather on Friday, Sept. 22, to be divided
into four pools of four teams, which will compete in round
robin action within each pool. The rally scoring system that
will be used in the tournament will offer fans more exiting
action than the traditional volleyball scoring method.
After
the pool play on Friday night, the teams will be reassigned
for another round robin tournament on Saturday morning.
Teams will be divided into two single elimination playoff
systems on Saturday afternoon, based on the results from
Saturday morning. All of the teams are guaranteed to play
seven matches through the two-day event.
