2001
Season Summary ~ From the Coach
The Hornet golf team
began the season with the goal of repeating as both MISC
and SPC Champions. They started the season with a win at
the Hillcrest High School Invitational at Mesquite
Municipal Golf Course with a score of 316 with Matt
Rosenfeld (71) receiving medallist honors. Next it was the
Keller Tournament at Trophy Club where the team placed
third and Matt, once again, set the pace at 74. The entire
season was plagued with bad weather but our next
tournament at the Naamen Forest Invitational was without a
doubt the worst. It rained the entire day and the
temperature hovered in the upper 30s, but the team
performed admirably, finishing in the middle of the pack,
against the best schools in the DFW area. It was then on
to Austin to compete in the St. Stephen's Invitational.
Our No. 1 player was unavailable for the trip so our goal
for the tourney was to shoot a 330. The team shot a 329
and tied for third place.
It was now time to begin our stretch run beginning with
the MISC Championships. The Hornets defeated Fort Worth
Country Day by 12 strokes in the one-day tournament at the
Creeks at Beechwood and placed Matt Rosenfeld (#1), Brian
Portner (#3), and Gerald Massoud (#4), on the All MISC
Tournament Team. The two-day SPC Championships were held
this year at The Riverside Country Club. The Hornets were
trying to win the championship for the third year in a row
and it looked promising after the first day, finishing in
first place with a score of 306 (one stroke better than
last year’s first day total), six shots ahead of the
Kinkaid School from Houston. Matt Rosenfeld was in first
place in the individual competition with a five under par
67. The pressure to repeat was evident the second day as
the team posted a 322 and lost to a very talented Kinkaid
team who wrapped up the team championship with a second
day score of 301 for a total of 613. Greenhill placed
second overall and Matt Rosenfeld won the individual title
for the third consecutive year. Congratulations to the
entire Hornet Golf Team for another successful season.
