Greenhill improves through tournament

The Greenhill
girls’ varsity volleyball team returned home from the
three-day Garland tournament with runner-up honors. With an
improved 7-2 record, the Hornets only loses have been to South
Garland.
After
defeating Garland in the quarterfinals (15-4, 15-12), Greenhill
faced a tough Rowlett team in the semifinals. Following a 7-7
tie in the first game, Rowlett scored eight straight points to
close out the first game 8-15. Greenhill played outstanding
defense and dominated the next two games, winning 15-6, 15-5. Elizabeth
Barnwell and Autumn Erickson
led the Hornets’ attack with 16 kills each, while Kim
Briant added 13. Briant and Erickson led the defense
with 15 kills, as freshman Linden
Chalfant added 11. Lauren
Schanbaum continues to set well with 49 assists.
Greenhill
lost to a strong South Garland team in the finals 6-15, 10-15.
Despite Erickson and Barnwell’s combined 26 kills, Greenhill
was not able to overcome the excellent ball control of South
Garland. Under the leadership of the lone senior Schanbaum, the
Hornets are off to an excellent 7-2 start.
