Greenhill wins SPC Title

The Greenhill
varsity girls volleyball team captured the Southwest Preparatory
Conference Championship on Friday with a convincing 15-10, 15-7
victory over Fort Worth Trinity Valley on Friday. The Hornets
won the final 20-straight games of the season to remain
undefeated against private schools all season. The team finished
with an impressive 35-9 record, and the first conference title
for Head Coach Michelle McGuire.
McGuire has
guided the Greenhill volleyball program to 50 straight SPC North
Zone wins and eight straight North Zone titles. She has had her
teams in the SPC finals 8 of the past 10 years, but until now,
has been unable to win the title.
Greenhill
defeated Kinkaid 15-12, 15-8 in the first round of the
tournament, before dropping Oklahoma City Casady 15-4, 15-4 in
the semifinals. Sophomore Elizabeth
Barnwell led the Hornets in the championship game
with 8 kills, 7 blocks and 4 aces. Consistently ranked amongst
the Metroplex leaders, Barnwell finished the season with a total
of 424 kills and 106.5 blocks.
Junior
Autumn Erickson trailed
Barnwell in kills with 404. Greenhill’s only senior on the
team, Lauren Schanbaum,
finished her final season with 1,110 assists.
Barwell, Erickson and Schanbaum
each earned SPC All-Conference selections.
