Baseball
team travels to Arizona for break
(04/04/02)
Greenhill baseball had a chance to do everything from
watching a Giants game and getting autographs from Barry Bonds
to scrimmaging in 90-degree heat against other private high
schools in Phoenix during spring break.
It was Greenhill’s junior varsity squad that greatly
impressed and somewhat surprised coach Mark Parachini.
The junior varsity hit five doubles, with three in a row.
Freshman Philip Kafka
pitched well with Scott Kaufman
and Jake Holloway giving a
strong defensive performance.
“They were just unbelievable,” Parachini said. “They
played well together. I think the varsity squad learned a lesson
from being too cocky.”
Although official score was not kept since Greenhill played
three varsity and two JV scrimmages, Alex
Chalfant walked seven in six innings and gave up a
home run and several hits.
Parachini was very pleased with sophomores Brian
McCarther and Brandon
Arrington.
“Sometimes we forget they are only sophomores because
they are such good athletes,” he said. “Sometimes they show
flashes of greatness.”
