Boys
lacrosse finishes season
(05/05/02)
Success isn’t always measure
in wins and losses.
Greenhill’s boys lacrosse
team had nine seniors, Jeff Allgeier,
captain David Webster, Andrew Burrow,
captain Raul Fabre, Michael
Herndon, captain Matt Wilson,
captain LaDarien Gillins, Austin
Holtsclaw, Colin Rogers
and Scott Shtofman.
“Many of these players have
worked with me all four years,” coach Chris
Hartley said. “They have been the heart and soul of
this team as it has gone through the transition of one coaches'
reign to mine.”
The bright spot in the season
came with a 9-6 win against St. Andrews.
“The team played well and
stayed focused for the entire game,” Hartley said, whose team
finished 1-10 this year. “The win gave us some confidence to
battle in the second half of the season.”
Hartley said that Raul
Fabre became one of the best players in a year and a
half and Matt Johnson
greatly improved and stepped into the role as starting goalie
this year.
Hartley, Greenhill’s Dean of
Students will leave at the end of the year to become the Head of
Upper School at the University Liggett School in Michigan.
“I have learned that high
school sports at a school like Greenhill it is more about giving
boys skills to be great men rather than winning games and
titles,” Hartley said.
