Greenhill
captures Zone Cup title
(09/14/02) The
Greenhill boys volleyball team traveled to Houston to
participate in the SPC Zone Cup volleyball tournament. This
tournament pitted the North Zone against the South Zone. Greenhill
won all four matches, and the North Zone teams won all but one
match to take the Zone Cup championship. Each team from the
North Zone (Greenhill, FWCD, St. Mark's and Casady) was awarded
a cup.
Greenhill
was able to jump serve effectively to easily defeat Episcopal
Houston, St. Mary's Hall, St. John's, and Trinity Valley. Offensively,
Alex Gutor led all hitters with 40 kills, and Craig Cardwell
followed with 39 kills. Brennan Meier had 92 assists, and
11 jump serve aces. Gutor contributed 12 aces. On
defense, Josh Feldman had 13 blocks, Alex Gutor had 20 digs, and
Brian Dorber had 17 digs. Again, Greenhill’s
sophisticated, quick offense was too much for the opponents.
The
team increased its record is 14-0, and is on a 66 match
winning streak.
