Lady Hornets open season by sweeping past TCA

The Greenhill girls’ volleyball team has all but one player returning from a unit that went 36-8 last season and won the Southwest Preparatory Conference championship.

The Lady Hornets might once again be a good bet to repeat as SPC champions.

They began their quest Friday with a 15-7, 15-12 win at TCA . The Lady Hornets followed that up with two wins Tuesday, beating Northwest, 15-10, 15-13, and J.J. Pearce, 13-15, 15-8 and 15-3.

Greenhill jumped to an early 3-0 lead in Game 1, but a little overconfidence and some excellent play by the Lady Trojans, which resulted in TCA taking a 4-3 lead on three straight serves by Courtney Robertson.

The Lady Hornets recovered somewhat and the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie.

Greenhill then took control and went on a 9-1 run to cinch the contest.

It looked as though the Lady Hornets would have a much easier time of it in Game 2, as they bursted to a 14-4 lead when Jessi Howard served three straight points. The Lady Trojans roared back behind the serving of Jesse Dearian, who served seven consecutive points to cut the margin to 14-11.

TCA closed to 14-12 on a serve by Robertson. But the Lady Hornets finally got the winning point.
