Greenhill
faces tough competition
in Lamar Tournament
(09/06/03)
After committing themselves to defensive practice in the gym the
previous week, Greenhill came out ready to play in the first
round of the Arlington Invitational.
Although sluggish in the first round, Greenhill
defeated Denton 25-22, 17-25, 25-16.
Liz Barnwell recorded 10 kills and 8 digs.
Mandy Smith distributed the ball well for Greenhill and
recorded 18 assists.
In the second round, Greenhill was challenged Colleyville Heritage,
the No. 9 ranked team in 5A.
Passing meticulously and outstanding digging allowed
the Hornets to run their offense effectively.
Liz Barnwell, Kerry Stuewer and Jessi Ingle each added 6 kills in
the match, while Alex Feagin and Ingle led in digs with 8 and
6 respectively. Sophomore
Jennifer Davis added 4 aces.
Greenhill took the match in two games to set up a
quarterfinal match with host school Arlington Lamar.
Lamar proved to be too athletic for Greenhill and won the match in
two games 25-18, 25-23. The
Hornets ended the tournament 7th out of a tough 32-team field.
Greenhill (12-8) will face area power Lake
Highlands on Monday at 5:30.
