The
Greenhill varsity boys lacrosse team lost its season opener
against Clearlake 8-11 on Feb. 21. Last weekend, the team
traveled to San Antonio for a double-header against Central
Catholic and St. Anthony's. The team won the first game
against Central Catholic, 9-8. Sophomores Brett Holloway
and Sam Johnson, junior Jeff Klein, and seniors Adam Sparks
and Ryan Berk all had goals. The team played with little
intensity, but managed to come out on top of a sloppy game
Greenhill
lost the last game against St. Anthony's, 10-15, but played a
much better game. Freshmen Jeffrey Talmadge and David
Zimmerman, sophomores Brett Holloway and Sam Johnson, juniors
Jeff Klein and Justin Wiesenfeld, and senior Cesar Valadez
were some of the players to score goals.
Although
the game was a loss, the team played much better and moved the
ball quicker. The game was paused when Neil Zimmerman blocked
a hard, direct shot on goal with his temple. He returned to
the game, and eventually scored.
St.
Anthony's was led by Eric Covey, a pre-season All-American
midfielder.
The
varsity plays March 4 against Allen. The team has stepped up
the tempo during practice in an effort to prepare for the four
games in six days almost immediately after spring break.
The
junior varsity is currently 0-1.
