Girls
continue in new direction
(11/22/04)
Last
year marked the beginning of a new direction for the girls’
basketball program at Greenhill School. Under head coach
Darryn Sandler, the Hornets began the practice of teaching the
middle school and junior varsity teams many of the same skills
and team strategies that are emphasized at the varsity level.
The
varsity team, despite having to learn entirely new offenses,
defenses and drills, approached every practice and every game
with unparalleled enthusiasm and work ethic. This season,
Coach Sandler and the Hornets are looking to build on the
initial success and to continue to build the program in
respectable ways.
Greenhill
returns seven players this season that contributed varsity
minutes last year, and will be helped with the addition of
junior Lindsey Davis and freshman Shana Pouncey. The three
captains leading the squad in 2004-2005 will be senior Kirsten
Thornton, senior Lauren White, and sophomore Sarah Brajtbord.
The Hornets will also rely on senior Lauren Haggerty, juniors
Katie Fellman and Kelly Dorber, and sophomore Jessica Heller
for strong play and leadership.
Greenhill can expect tough competition from north zone
conference opponents Casady, Hockaday and All Saints. The
Southwest Preparatory Conference championships are scheduled
for Feb. 11-12, 2005 in Fort Worth.
