Greenhill Volleyball travels to Western Canadian Challenge:
Girls team brings championship trophy back to Dallas

(10/22/07) The Greenhill boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams travel to Canada from Oct. 17-21 to compete in the Lion's Western Canadian Challenge Invitational Volleyball Tournament hosted by Morinville Community High School in Edmonton, Alberta. The premiere tournament featured 48 individual volleyball programs, including Greenhill School as the sole representative from the United States.

In their first year to join the boys’ squad for the competition, the Greenhill girls’ volleyball team returned from the tournament with the championship trophy, along with most valuable player honors for sophomore Michelle Quina. Senior Taylor Johnson paved the way for the Hornets with 11 kills in the finals, while junior Julianne Roberson and senior Christina Marmol combined for a total of 31 kills in the final three matches.

The Greenhill boys' volleyball team has attended 9 tournaments in Canada under the leadership of head coach Keith Nannie, and finished the 2007 tournament in 5th place overall. The unique experience offered the Greenhill program the opportunity to face off against challenging opponents, outside of its conference, and prepared the team for the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships.

The Western Canadian Challenge Tournament was highlighted by the first-class atmosphere, which included opening ceremonies and a drum processional that was partially comprised of Greenhill parents. In addition to their experiences in the tournament, the girls were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of Canada. The team was even featured in the local paper, as they learned how to compete in the Olympic sport of curling.

The boys and girls volleyball teams will host conference counter games for Homecoming on Oct. 26 against St. Mark's and Hockaday, before entering the SPC championships at Greenhill on Nov. 1-2.
