Fall SPC Championships
November 7-8, 2008
Fort Worth, Texas

The Greenhill boys volleyball team finished off a very successful weekend for Greenhill School at the fall SPC championships in Fort Worth where the boys’ volleyball, girls’ volleyball and field hockey teams each earned Division I berths in the SPC tournament.

In front of a capacity crowd in the Trinity Valley gymnasium, the boys’ volleyball team defeated Trinity Valley 3-1 for the 2008 SPC title. With a team comprised of five seniors and four sophomores, the Hornets opened the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Houston Kinkaid and defeated Houston Episcopal in three straight games in the second round. In addition to the SPC title, the 2008 season brought head coach Keith Nannie his 600th career win at Greenhill. Seniors Cameron Andrew, Ryan Bates and Nate Reid-Griggs earned all-conference honors for the Hornets.

Sophomore Chelsey Sveinsson and senior Andres Ramirez paced the Greenhill boys and girls cross country teams with first-place individual finishes at the SPC cross country race at Fort Worth Country Day. The boys and girls teams both earned SPC runner-up honors, as the boys finished just 2 points behind the leader. Five Greenhill runners finished in the top 30 in both the boys’ and girls’ championship races, which included 165 participants in the boys’ division and 128 in the girls’ division. In addition to Sveinsson and Ramirez, seniors Jackie Altshuler and Austin Miller finished the championship meet with all-conference performances.

After an exciting two days of competition that included wins over St. Stephen’s and St. John’s, the Greenhill girls’ volleyball team earned Division I SPC runner-up honors. After defeating St. Stephen’s 3-1 in the first round, the Hornets went on to defeat the Mavericks 3-2 in the semi-finals. In the championship game, Greenhill took Hockaday to 5 sets but came up short in the final set, finishing the season with Division I SPC runner-up honors. Junior Molly Horn and senior Michelle Quina were recognized with all-conference honors.

The Greenhill girls’ field hockey team enjoyed its best Division I SPC finish in over 10 years. The Hornets lost to eventual champion St. John’s 1-0 in the first round, but bounced back to win the final two games against ESD and St. Stephen’s to finish in fifth place overall. Greenhill scored seven goals in the final two games of the Division I tournament, while allowing only three. Seniors Brittany Johnson and Erin Mullen finished the season as all-conference selections.

Greenhill School quarterback Will Musselman finished the 2008 football season listed as the leading high school quarterback by MaxPreps.com, averaging 374.5 yards per game. In his 10-game senior campaign for the Hornets, Musselman threw for 3,745 yards and 34 touchdowns. He completed 265 passes out of 458 attempts, threw just 10 interceptions, and rushed for nine additional touchdowns. Musselman’s single best performance this season came against the St. Mark’s School of Texas on Oct. 31, 2008, when he threw for 529 yards and six touchdowns.

Musselman was complemented by an arsenal of receivers during the season, including a trio that tallied nearly 1,000 yards each. Senior Sam Chortek caught 84 passes for 1,333 yards and 14 touchdowns. Junior Foster Donnell registered 65 receptions for 980 yards and 10 touchdowns, while junior David Zale caught 61 passes for 923 yards and five touchdowns.
