Philosophy
Athletics are a
vital aspect of the total Greenhill educational
experience. The importance of a “sound mind AND
sound body” cannot, and should not, be overemphasized or
underestimated. Training the body to respond precisely,
quickly, efficiently and automatically is a direct
benefit derived from athletic training. Social skills
such as working cooperatively, respect for others, and
learning to perform under pressure are also attributable
to participation in athletic competition.
The entire Greenhill
community benefits from the contributions made by the
athletics program. It is a goal of the Athletics
Department that, through a diverse program of athletics,
the entire student body will become better acquainted
via participation in one form or another. Each student
and faculty member, whether athlete, coach or spectator,
has a role to fill. It is often the spectators that
inspire a team to greater achievement. The support
provided by the school community as a whole contributes
greatly towards the success of each team and the
positive experience of each player.
Interscholastic
competition at Greenhill is geared to the size of the
institution. It is our intent to compete athletically
on a level with those institutions of similar enrollment
and philosophy, and as much as possible, geographical
proximity.
No attempt is made
to recruit athletes for the sole purpose of exploiting
their athletic talents, nor will any admissions or
financial aid standards be lowered to facilitate the
admission of a potential athlete.
Although Greenhill Athletics strives to
achieve success in all interscholastic contests, it does
so with the realization the VICTORY is, by and
large, the overall byproduct of “doing things right”.
Therefore, we do not intent to ever sacrifice doing what
is right for the sake of experiencing the immediate, but
temporary, gratification derived from winning a
particular point, game match or meet.
