The thespians performed David Ives’ All in
the Timing on Nov. 3 and Nov. 4. The play is composed of
eight one-act plays, all having to do with the theme of timing.
This selection offered the opportunity for more students to play
leading roles.
"We considered the group of actors we had
this year and selected the play to suit their talent," said
Synthia Rogers, Upper School theater director. "There was an
opportunity for students to play a lead in a one-act play."
However, some of the cast members disliked
the selection because they were divided into groups for
rehearsal.
"The disadvantage is that you work separately
all of the time; you’re separated into little groups," said
senior Conor Biller, who appeared in The Philadelphia.
Regardless of the play, participants complete pre-performance
rituals to optimize their performance. For a 7:00 curtain:
All cast and crew are called to the theater
to begin preparations. The cast goes into hair and makeup and do
some last minute character preparation. The crew makes sure the
props are in order and checks the lights.

The entire cast and crew gathers into a
"unity circle," where they prepare themselves mentally for a
performance.
"It gets you focused and relaxed and
strengthens the bonds with people [with whom] you’re about to be
acting," Conor said.
During the unity circle, seniors speak about their experience
with the fall drama.

The boys and girls of the cast and crew break up and do their
separate rituals to prepare for the performance.
"They meet together and energize themselves," Ms. Rogers
said. "They connect with each other so they can connect with the
audience."
