Field hockey reaches for Div. II title

by Molly Mack, Sports Editor

The field hockey team has had a competitive season. Its record in counter games is 1-5. Regardless of its record, the team has a positive outlook going into Division II in the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) tournament.

“I feel like we have a good chance of winning Division II because we have worked hard this season, and our hard work should pay off,” junior Lindsey Wiesenfeld said.

The girls have worked to bond together as a team and improve their skills with strong practices separated from the junior varsity team. The team is able to focus more on its individual skills and work on its new line-up.

“This year we have played very well as a team and bonded,” senior Timmy Johnson siad. “The girls have played strong through out the entire season taking every win and lose as something to grow from. That regardless of our record this has been a very rewarding season for the team.”

The line-up is focused on a stronger defense and a more centralized offense to create more scoring opportunities.
Although the team hustles and plays its hardest in all the games, it has trouble finishing key opportunities to score.

“This year the team had a lot of potential, but we couldn’t finish our opportunites,” sophomore Lisa Arnold said. “We couldn’t put the ball in the goal. That’s the reason we ended up in Division II.”

The team will compete in the tournament on Nov. 2-3.
