Searches promote safety

By Ralph Price, School Resource Officer

In my opinion, we have the search of student property in the Handbook for a reason. Just one of the reasons would be for the safety and security of students, faculty, and employees here at the school. If you think about why we have no rights to privacy here the reason is clear to me, but I do see things in a different way than most people who have not been on that side (police officer).

I know my opinion on this subject may be one-sided because of my past. As long as every one on campus knows that they are subject to no privacy, i.e., in cars, lockers, backpack, and person, this should not be inappropriate for anyone here at school.

I definitely feel this is necessary because of the world we live in today. I think bad things can happen anywhere, anytime, and anyplace. With all this said, I feel the school has rules in place to make the school a place you can work or learn and leave the things that are going on in the world off campus and feel safe doing it.
