(Updated - May 2009)
Year 7 (2008-2009)
Texas State Tournament 2009
Another first for Greenhill! This year two 5th graders, Catherine Leffert and Eric Liang not only competed at the State Tournament, they won a 3rd place bronze medal in the Wright Stuff competition! Their flight of 1 minute and 2 seconds was the third best flight in the state. That may not sound like much, but let me repeat....5TH GRADERS! To top that off...they also placed 5th in the Trajectory event. No one at the tournament can remember two 5th graders competing, let alone winning a medal in the state of TX at the state tournament. The entire team improved dramatically from the previous year! The team tripled their medal count from year six. The Greenhill Div. B team brought home 12 medals and they placed 7th overall. There is only one thing to say....."Watch out Texas.....We're Back!"
The Greenhill Div. C celebrated an incredile mildstone. Jay Hashop (Junior) earned his 12th state medal at this years TX tournament. Jay is in his 6th year of competition at Greenhill. His efforts helped the team place 6th overall at this years tournament all the while, bringing home 15 medals!
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL COMPETITORS FOR ANOTHER GREAT YEAR! WE'LL DO IT ALL AGAIN STARTING IN AUGUST!
(More later)
Year 6 (2007-2008)
Texas State Tournament 2008
This year was a rebuilding year for the Division B team. The Greenhill team worked hard all year and placed 10th at the TX State Tournament and learned good competition skills which will help out in years to come. The Greenhill team earned a 1st and 4th place medal in two events, Science Crime Busters and Amphibians and Reptiles (see "Hall of Fame" link). The team left the competiton with a high spirit and the desire to improve next year and make a run for a state championship.
Our Division C team had an incredible year! Our best ever, 5th overall at state, was triggered by winning four 1st place, one 2nd place and one 4th place medals. A run at a championship is just around the corner!
As always, congratulations to all who participated and to all who make Science Olympiad possible at Greenhill!

Congratulations to all who participated and to all who make Science Olympiad possible at Greenhill!

Texas State Tournament 2005
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE YEAR!!! The Greenhill Middle School Science Olympiad Team finished a remarkable 3rd Place at the State Tournament this year. The team walked away with a school record 18 medals! The team earned 4 first place, 2 second place, 2 third place and 1 fourth place medals. (See Hall of Fame Section). The team's overall point total was only 22 points short of going to the National Tournament. The 22 point gap between 3rd place and second place is the smallest in four years! Preparation for next year has already begun!
Congratulations to ALL students and parents who have been a part of another great year!
Regional Tournament at UT @ Arlington 2005
Beginning in the 2004-2005 season, the TX Science Olympiad held 6 Regional Tournaments throughout the Lone Star State. The regional tournaments are held as qualifying meets for the Texas State Tournament.Greenhill entered 2 teams in the U T @ Arlington Regional Tournament which was held on March 5, 2005.
From a field of 8 teams, Greenhill A and Greenhill B took an impressive 1st and 2nd place respectively! Combined, 36 medals were won by 23 students for 15 different events! A First Place Trophy and a Second Place Trophy were also awarded as team prizes. A total of 18 first place medals, 14 second place medals and 4 third place medals were awarded. What a great effort! Congratulations to all who worked VERY hard all year round!!
As a result of the strong finish, Greenhill A was formally invited to participate at the Texas State Science Olympiad Tournament being held at Texas A&M University, College Station on April 14 and 15, 2005. Good Luck!!!!!
Year 2 (2003-2004)
Texas State Tournament 2004
Continuing the winning tradition in year two, the "Vespula maculatas" dropped two places to 11th. However, the overall point total dropped from 296 to 244! This was a significant drop. (In this competition, low score wins.) The Middle School Science Olympiad Team more than doubled their medal winnings! The team brought home 10 medals! (2 - 1st place, 2 - 3rd place & 1 - 4th place). The Vespula maculatas are well on their way to becoming competitive at the state level. Look out Park Crest and Kealing!
Year 1 (2002-2003)
Texas State Tournament 2003
In the first year of it's competition, the Greenhill "Vespula maculatas" (scientific name for "hornets") placed 9th overall out of 32 teams. This was an excellent showing considering that the first study session was held in January. This was less than 4 months from the state competition that was being held at College Station, Texas in April. The team captured 2 medals in their first year of competing! (1 - 1st and 1 - 3rd place). The team also captured the Spirit Award. The Spirit Award is given to the team that shows the most enthusiasm, fair play and sportsmanship. The award was taken from a team that had won it 4 years in a row!
