Raku Pottery: An Introduction to Ceramics

Participants will be given demonstrations on all major facets of production of pottery, including wedging, throwing vessels/lids, trimming, pulling handles, and glazing. The concentration will be on the potter’s wheel. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to participate in raku firing on the last evening of the class.
Sessions: 6 sessions, bimonthly, 90-minute classes
Dates: 11/1, 11/15, 12/6, 12/20, 1/10, 1/24
Day & Time: Thursdays, 6 pm
Cost: $200 (materials included)

Tony Schraufnagel received his MFA in sculpture from the University of North Texas in 1996. He has exhibited both locally and nationally; recent exhibitions include the peacock for the 2007 Greenhill School Parents Association Gala, The Addison Conference Center Outdoor Sculpture Garden in Addison Texas and The Navy Pier in Chicago Illinois. Mr. Schraufnagel has held teaching positions at Texas Tech University, The University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University. He has been teaching sculpture and ceramics at Greenhill School for eight years and recently completed the construction of a studio at his home.
